Happy 2025 Summer!! HOT July News!

From Scotland to Spain! Derek is a world traveler!

The last few months have been incredibly busy. June and July have been hot and making it feel like summer for sure! After Derek and I returned from our fabulous trip to Scotland, Derek was off again a few short days later heading to Spain for work, and a bit of personal time there. He wrote a lovely blog post about Madrid Spain. Check it out on his travel blog site Atlantic Destinations.com

Next Trip for Jackie: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Shortly after Derek returned home from Spain, my bestie Rhonda, had a rather unexpected surgery. She was having a rough go of recovery, so I headed up to Green Bay, Wisconsin from May 24 – 27th to give her hubby John a much needed break. This allowed me quality time with Rhonda while she recovered. Thankfully she is on the road to recovery and back at work doing light-duty, until she can get back out on the road doing her sheriff deputy duties in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Let me just say, Green Bay, Wisconsin is not what I had imagined it to be. For some reason I imagined it to be a big city with having the Green Bay Packers Football team, etc. But nope, it’s a Tiny town with an even smaller airport. Overall it’s almost the size of New Bern and our tiny airport. Green Bay is so much smaller than thought. For some reason, I fully expected the city of “Cheese Heads” to be a lot bigger. It’s NOT.

Myrtle Beach Here We Come

June and July have already been hot summer months here in North Carolina. In early June we took a trip to Myrtle Beach to see Derek’s cousins, George & Lindsey and all the Miller Family. George’s brother and other Miller members live here in the states. So it was nice to be able to see George, Lindsey, Jack, Beth, and Beth’s partner Jesse, while they were here visiting from Scotland. Yes, we saw George and Lindsey in early May while we were visiting Scotland, but it’s always nice to see them again, especially when they are just a few hours down the road in the USA. We had a lovely visit.

Touring Tryon Palace with Friends

The next weekend, on Father’s Day, our good friends Chris & Paula and their two kids, came down for a visit from Virginia. They spent one night with us before they were on their way to Surf City for a week holiday with Chris’ family. On Monday morning, before they hit the road to Surf City, we went downtown to New Bern, and we did a tour of Tryon Palace. This was my first time seeing the palace and it did not disappoint. In fact, I’ll have a newsletter coming out soon with a peek into my process on how I made my latest new pattern design and the inspiration photos I took during the tour. Stay tuned for that!

Learning Procreate

I’ve been continuing to learn more about pattern design, and learning how to use Procreate. I found this awesome artist from the UK, Jasmine Hnatkova, and took her online course called “Procreate Patterns: A Step by Step Guide to Creating Stunning Repeats.” Such an awesome course. Affordable and easy to understand. I made my three latest new patterns using Procreate.

The Profitable Artist Summit

I also participated in the Profitable Artist Summit on June 18th- 20th. This was an online three day summit with so many talented pattern designers and artists who shared business tips and tricks. It was hosted by Vanessa Stoilova, an illustrator, surface designer, and business owner out of Toronto, Canada. She did an absolutely amazing job hosting this summit. Kudos to her for pulling that off without a hitch.

Happy Birthday Dad!!

The week of June 23rd, my Dad turned 82!! Happy Birthday Dad!! I also graduated from Bonnie Christine’s Immersion course and completed Juliet Meeks’ Licensing for Artists course (I completed both of these courses as an alumni). Taking both courses again was a great refresher and I made some new art friends too!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Next, was my birthday weekend trip to Hillsborough, NC to visit my art friend, Joanna and her husband Bill. On Friday evening we checked out ArtWalk in Hillsborough and then enjoyed some live music at one of the local pubs. Saturday morning Joanna joined us for breakfast at the Colonial Inn. That was delightful. Then we spent a few hours at the local library in the afternoon, where Joanna and I did some business brainstorming. We froze our tails off in the library; seems they just had their HVAC repaired after a week of not working. They made up for lost time by freezing us out.

New Bern’s ArtWalk

On July 11th, Derek and I attended New Bern’s ArtWalk downtown and got to see our friends Eric & Frances McRay. Eric had an art opening at Bank of the Arts called Grit & Grace: Stories From The Southern Soul. It was a fantastic opening and this the was the first time Derek and I have gotten to experience Eric’s collage art up close and personal. It did not disappoint and we added a piece to our Eric McRay collection.

I’ve known Eric McRay for 25 years and he never ceases to amaze me with his talent. He is truly a wonderful artist and human being. His show will be up for another few weeks here in New Bern if you want to see his work. Eric lives and works in Raleigh if you can’t get down to New Bern. I’m sure he’d love to meet with you in the Raleigh area if you’d like to meet him and see his artwork. Tell him I sent you.

Linocut Printmaking Course in Jacksonville, NC

I’ve recently learned about a Linocut Print Making course in Jacksonville, NC that will take place on Saturday July 19th at the Jacksonville-Onslow County Council for the Arts. This is a FREE course that will be taught by Tony Jackson, a professor of Fine Arts at Lenior Community College. I’m planning on attending this course for two reasons: 1) I love linocut and haven’t taken a class from this instructor and 2) It’s FREE!! Why not?!

Big NEWS for August!

The Big News for the month: I will be moving into a NEW ART Studio on August 1st!! Veronica and I had to let go of our previous studio due to expenses, specifically utilities, becoming more than we could justify. But we found new affordable spaces and we’ll be joining a large group of artists in Lace Leaf Studios in downtown New Bern. This should be a great experience for us both.

This means we will both be participating in New Bern Artists Open Studio Tour again this year on November 8th and 9th. So we’ll hope to see you there!!

Turtle Tracks Newsletter!

Even bigger news, I have a new website: JacquelineCadzow.com and I’m starting a new monthly newsletter called Turtle Tracks, where I’ll be sharing tips and tricks about my art process and what inspires me. Slide on over to my new website and sign up for my newsletter if you’re interested in learning more about my art, my process, and what inspires me.

Thank you for continuing to follow me on my artistic journey. Stay Inspired. Stay Connected to Nature. ~ Jackie
